How to play Happy Birthday on the guitar

We're strumming a new chord at DoofyDoodles today, venturing into the melodic world of music with an exciting twist!

We recently got our hands on this amazing Loog Telecaster and were blown away by how fun (and easy) it was to play. Loog uses the top three strings of a guitar to make the learning curve a bit less steep.

We’ve provided chord charts to match both the Loog guitar and a standard guitar for those who are ready for more of a challenge. Each dot has a number that corresponds to one of your fingers on your fretting hand (1 is for your index, 2 is for your middle finger, 3 is for your ring finger, and 4 is for your pinky). Match your fingers to their placement on the chart (and fretboard) and you have your chord!

Get ready to pick up your guitar as we dive into a classic tune that's close to everyone's heart - "Happy Birthday."

First, let’s take a look at the chords used in “Happy Birthday”. C, G7, and F. Try them out!

Now let’s see if you can match them up to the lyrics.

C G7
Happy Birthday to you

G7 C
Happy Birthday to you

C F
Happy Birthday dear (someone)

C G7 C
Happy Birthday to you

So what’d you think? Easy, right? Keep practicing the chords and when you’re ready, try the chord using all six strings!
